Q: Can you tell us a little bit about what your role at Canadian Retail Solutions and what your typical day looks like?

A: Honestly, no two days ever look the same for me, which is one of the things I love about my role here. The variety keeps things both challenging and exciting, and I think (most days, lol), I thrive in an environment where every day brings something new. One day, I might be deep into accounting tasks—processing payroll or managing financial reports, the next, I’m literally taking out the garbage. It’s a mix of high-level strategic work and hands-on problem-solving, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I like to think I’ve found a good balance between my independent accounting and admin responsibilities and the more collaborative, team or client driven aspects of my role. I’m very involved in client interactions and helping to find solutions that make a real impact. Creative problem-solving is a big part of what I do, whether it’s working with clients, supporting the team or helping to ensure the operational side of things runs smoothly. So, while I can’t say I have a typical day, I can say that every day is fulfilling in its own unique way! It’s this dynamic nature of my role that keeps me engaged, motivated, and always looking forward to what’s next.

Q: Outside of your work life, what kind of things are you interested in? Do you have any hobbies or side projects that you’re passionate about?

A: I know it sounds cliché, but outside of work, my life revolves around my family. I’m a mom to a 15-year-old boy..very soon to be 16 (what?!) and a 7-year-old girl and truly get the best of both worlds. As any parent can attest to, my focus tends to shift toward their interests, their needs, and everything in between. I’m constantly balancing schedules and a lot of travel. It’s a bit of a whirlwind and chaotic at times but you only get so much time with them 😅. Outside of that, I am a (fair-weather) sports girlie and love to play ball in the summer. The past few years, I have really learned to love finding value in old things and give them a new life. Whether it’s through home renovations, redecorating (constantly lol), or we recently purchased a 1964 camper, we plan to strip down to its bones this spring and update it with modern touches while keeping its vintage charm!

Q: What inspired you to pursue your career path and what kind of advice would you give to someone aspiring to be in your field?

A: Ok, so I actually started my career in the car industry, and to be honest, I never expected it would take me where I am today. I spent 8 years in that world, and I can honestly say I learned something valuable in every role I took on. From receptionist to controller, I was constantly absorbing new knowledge and gaining experience that helped shape my career and elevate myself. And, looking back, it laid the foundation for where I am in my current role. My advice would be – be a sponge! Absorb as much as you can, take every opportunity to learn, and don’t shy away from new challenges. Always be willing to listen, ask questions, and learn as much as possible from those you respect. Whether it’s a mentor, or someone with a different perspective, there’s so much to gain from observing and listening to those around you. I think a lot of people are focused on trying to have everything figured out, but it’s the process of learning and picking up bits of wisdom from every experience. Focus on soaking up knowledge, seeking guidance from those you admire, and be open to the unpredictable nature of your journey. I feel like It’s that combination of learning, hard work, and persistence that will ultimately lead to success.

Q: Tell us a surprising fact about you that your coworkers don’t already know.

A: Well, I surprised them at our last team-building event where I naturally smoked them all at go-karting! They didn’t know I booked it because I knew I would win. Kidding…kind of (haha). I don’t know, I feel like I’m the least interesting person ever. They may be surprised at the fact that my dream is to, one day, hopefully live somewhere in the middle of nowhere as opposed to in the city, they probably see me as a bit more ‘high maintenance’ than I really am but lately, I truly crave a quieter, country lifestyle as I age.

Q: If you could swap roles with someone for just one day – either within the company or outside of the industry – what would it be and why?

A: Aside from being a professional race car driver?! Realistically, I’d love to step into the role of a technician here, assuming I had their level of technical expertise. Working in a support role, where you’re mostly troubleshooting urgent client issues all day, is no easy task and sometimes they don’t get enough credit! I think spending a day in their shoes would provide valuable insight into their challenges, helping to build even more patience and understanding. It would also give me a deeper appreciation for the problem-solving skills they bring to the table and how they keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes!
