Q: Can you tell us a little bit about what your role at Retail by CRS and what your typical day looks like?

A: My role at Canadian Retail Solutions is to help our clients with any hardware or software related issues that can come up with the day-to-day operations.

I also help with systems implementations in ensuring hardware is properly provisioned/configured for store operations.

Helping other CRS agents where/when I can is also something I like to contribute with we all help each other the best we can.

Q: Outside of your work life, what kind of things are you interested in? Do you have any hobbies or side projects that you’re passionate about?

A: I like to Stay active by going out for walks, riding bicycles, lifting weights, running obstacle races. I’ve also recently started skateboarding because my daughter likes to skateboard and that’s how I like to spend time with her.

Another hobby I have is playing the piano when I have free time. From classical music to classical 80’s and 90’s songs, I enjoy playing to sharpen my music skills.

Q: What inspired you to pursue your career path and what kind of advice would you give to someone aspiring to be in your field?

A: When I was growing up, my dad got the family a computer to use for our educational purposes. I really enjoyed the learning tools but also how computers were applied in many other ways.  When I graduated high school, I pursued a career in technology because I wanted to learn how to harness the power of computers to solve complex problems which improves the quality of life for people.

My advice for some getting into the technology field is to never stop being curious and to enjoy learning new things because the only thing constant is the fact that technology is always evolving.  For my role, I do my best to keep up to date with new ways that technology is applied to various areas of information management, specifically retail business management.

Q: If you could swap roles with someone for just one day – either within the company or outside of the industry – what would it be and why?

A: Although MacGyver is a fictional character in an 80s show called “MacGyver”, I would swap roles with that character for just 1 day to have the ability to fix anything. MacGyver is able to think outside the box to get out of hairy situations. He has the ability to use anything around him from basic everyday materials and tools and use them to his advantage to solve any problem that comes his way.

Q: Tell us a surprising fact about you that your coworkers don’t already know.

A: I learned to play the piano when I was in grade school and at a grade 6 event I played a hit song of that time period – “Right Here Waiting” by Richard Marx. Many of the kids sang along to the music and it was a cool, spotlight moment.
