If You’re Using Quickbooks POS, It May Be Time for a Change
As of February 8, 2023, new licenses for Quickbooks POS were no longer available to new customers following the company’s announcement of the product being discontinued. The official end of life date – where everything from support to important integrations will discontinue – has been set for October 3, 2023.
Existing Quickbooks POS Users
While you can technically continue to use the Quickbooks POS software after the scheduled end of life date, there are some important things you need to consider:
You will continue to receive technical support up until October 3, 2023. After this date, support will no longer be available. This includes security patches, which puts your system at risk of cyber attacks and data theft.
Additional licenses can no longer be purchased after October 3, 2023. This means if you expand into additional locations or POS stations in existing locations, you will not be able to add an additional POS license.
Intuit Merchant Services will also be discontinued as of October 3, 2023, meaning you will have to find a new payment processing provider. This provider will not be able to integrate into Quickbooks POS, so it must be standalone.
Quickbooks Point of Sale Payments, Quickbooks Point of Sale Gift Cards, Vendor Lookup Serice, Webgility Ecommerce Integration, Mobile Sync, and Store Exchange will no longer be available for continued use.
Recommended Next Steps
For those currently using Quickbooks POS, it is highly recommended to seek out an alternative point of sale solution. Staying on a discontinued product can result in unexpected errors, and without support, this could cause your business some costly downtime.
